What are my business health and safety obligations caused by bushfire smoke?

January 22, 2020

While you cannot control the movement of the bushfire smoke, you can control where, how and when your employees undertake their duties.

Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Work Health and Safety Regulations 2017, your business needs to provide and maintain a safe working environment for your employees.

According to SafeWorkNSW, it is recommended indoor working environments ensure the working environment is safe and without risks to health for workers during periods of elevated smoke. In the case of outdoor working environments, ensure work is rescheduled, if possible until air visibility and quality improve. For more information, please visit the SafeWorkNSW website.
