Destination Southern NSW (DSNSW) in partnership with four Destination Networks secured funding under the Regional NSW – Business Case and Strategy Development Fund to undertake a Regional Cruise Industry Development project, to develop a Regional NSW Cruise Industry Development Specialists Business Case.
The Regional NSW Cruise Industry Development Specialists Business Case evaluates the benefit, costs and risks associated with the creation of multiple positions responsible for coordinating, developing and better-aligning tourism offerings with cruise ship visits across eight cruise ports, spanning the NSW Coastline, with the objective to grow the visitor economy, and provide economic benefit to each of the Local Government Areas and surrounding regions.
The business case examines the potential impact these specialised roles would have on increasing cruise calls in each port and positive experiences for cruise passengers, leading to increased visitation, increased visitor spend, increased return visitation and repeat overnight stays.
As part of the project, we have established a Regional Cruise Industry Steering Committee and are developing a project plan that will articulate a vision for regional cruising in NSW. The Steering Committee met in Sydney in February 2024 to review the recommendations of the business case and plans to meet again for a post-season de-brief once the 2023-24 cruising season is over.
